TYPES OF TRANSPLANT
Stem cell transplant is classified as follows:
- in autologous transplant (the stored placental blood unit is used as a transplant graft for the child/adult during the birth of whose harvesting was made = the donor and the recipient are the same individual)
- allogeneic (the stored placental blood unit is used as a transplant graft for one immunologically compatible individual with the child / adult during the birth of whose harvesting was made - the donor and the recipient are different individuals). Depending on the source of the graft, the allogeneic transplantation may be related or unrelated.

The harvested placental blood unit can be used both as a graft for autologous transplantation and as the graft for related allogeneic transplant.
In the family, the highest likelihood of immunological compatibility is with brothers having the same parents; it is valued at 25%. For parents or other family members, the likelihood of immunological compatibility is much smaller.
